Byron Avenue

2016 – current

LOCATION – Camberley, Surrey

PROJECT TYPE – Complete remodelling and extension of existing detached dwellinghouse

CLIENT – Domestic

PROJECT STATUS – Construction

Situated on a quiet street in Camberley, the original 1970s detached house had been extended a number of times and the spaces subsequently were disconnected and in need of rationalising. Our proposal reorganised the large, existing ground floor plan and extended above to form a two-storey side and rear extension. At first floor, two further bedrooms were created and with the additional height, we were able to create a double height space above the dining area.

The external form of the proposal introduces a pair of asymmetric roofs that are also expressed in the soffits internally. The choice of a light render against the existing buff brickwork and the gentle domestic profiled parapet is designed to be a re-interpretation of the domestic rooflines surrounding.

Cornerless glazing and an innovative structural solution helps to increase the height of the spaces whilst retaining the clean lines of a modernist extension. Whilst conceived as a family home, the spaces offer both quiet and social spaces for the range of uses a family may have.
