Westbury

2018-2020

A contemporary extension offering clean lines and large expanses of glazing to compliment and appreciate the meticulously crafted gardens to an existing 1970s dwelling.

Sometimes the brief grows as you work through the design. Originally intended as an interior project, Westbury developed with the clients’ ambition to build a space where they could sit and enjoy all their hard work they dedicate to their garden. The additional living space protrudes out to the garden at a raised height and offers a juxtaposition with regards to the existing shallow-pitched roof forms.

The large expanses of glazing that slide away ensure that the full panorama of the garden can be displayed from the new garden room. The asymmetrical roof enables much of the sky to be captured in the view internally, whilst also presenting a striking view back to the house from the garden.

Linking the existing terraces, garden path and descent down to the garden were an important part of the scheme, carefully considering the external spaces that would be created and accessed from the house.
