Browns Farm

2015 - 2017

Complete regeneration of an existing dilapidated grade II listed barn, Browns Farm demonstrates a sensitive approach to conservation whilst also integrating contemporary principles of daylights.

An existing grade II listed barn in need of refurbishment and substantial structural repair; the project involved converting the existing barn into a single dwelling.

The technical design involved many challenging and considered details to ensure the preservation of the listed barn features as well as maximising the opportunity for a unique dwelling in a beautiful setting.

Interpretation of traditional details in a modern way can be seen throughout the project with an external louvred façade replicating traditional featheredged weatherboarding, with large expanses of glazing behind to allow light to flood the original threshing floor. Cantilevered first floors bookend both ends of the barn with internal picture windows allowing views across the space internally.

Designed in a way to expose the original frame of the barn, a cathedral ceiling covers the main living space, with new rooflights below the thatched roof bringing in further light from above.
