The Hampshire Forest House is a luxury contemporary dwelling nestled within its historic landscape context.
The brief for the Forest House was for a replacement dwelling that would grasp the opportunity of such a unique plot and setting. Surrounded by tall mature woodland and located adjacent to a Listed Building, the proposals needed to demonstrate a vast improvement to the existing bungalow, whilst also complimenting and respecting its setting.
The opportunity to create something beautiful and worthy of its setting required a holistic and detailed design process that considered a full spectrum of possibilities. The form concentrates on sunlight optimisation and integrating with its forest surroundings through large cantilevers and overhangs, allowing the forest floor to flood up to the dwelling. The use of earthy materials blend in with the bark and foliage of the trees, and strategically placed glazing adds reflection to further integrate the dwelling with its surroundings.
