An existing site consisting of four dwellings in a combination of existing farm buildings, the project obtained planning for a new-build dwelling whilst converting and refurbishing elements of the existing farm buildings.
Following a challenging planning process, the project obtained consent for a new-build dwelling that responds to both the local vernacular, the clients’ current and future needs, whilst also incorporating some contemporary features and detailing.
With all accommodation located on a ground storey, the ‘L-shaped’ dwelling looks to maximise sunlight from the south whilst also taking in the views from the north. A series of outdoor rooms enable the bedrooms to be connected to the outside and the main living space, whilst also offering different environments with the views to the north and a courtyard to the south.
The single storey aspect of the design enables the main living space to benefit from extra height up to the roofline, and offers an opportunity to express the structure and materiality internally.
